Assistance for Learning Disabilities

As a school rooted in the Catholic faith, we are committed to providing a learning environment that is safe, inclusive and welcoming for students. We welcome all students who are willing to take responsibility for their learning and whose parental support reinforces our goals.

Tyburn provides accommodations for students with IEP’s and 504 plans. The Heritage Learning Center expands this with more resources, a designated learning center in our building that will have learning tools available, one-on-one instruction, and support using recognized writing, reading, and comprehension methods.

Research indicates that students benefit tremendously when they remain in the least restrictive environment (LRE) with their peers and have access to the general education curriculum. In following with this notion, inclusion has become an ideology that adheres to our mission of respecting the dignity of each student. Each student is educated in the environment they would traditionally attend.

Heritage Learning Center

Tyburn Academy provides a learning environment where each student can discover his or her own talents. Our teachers care about individual success and treat all students with human respect and dignity. Our programs are designed to fulfill our mission while providing a college preparatory program. Tyburn Academy boasts a 98% college readiness rate. Our success is not only attributed to our curriculum and programs, but it is also directly related to our commitment to educate the whole person.

Tyburn Academy has been granted an abosolute charter by the New York State Board of Regents. Our students have the opportunty to take part in our Honors Program as well as College courses. Tyburn students may enroll in Cayuga Onondaga BOCES Career Education programs as well.

In seeking to respond more fully to our mission of educating the whole person, we have created the Heritage Learning Center. Here we address the accommodations and special needs instruction that some of our students require; however, it has been designed to offer support to all students to further our commitment to academic excellence and college readiness. The Heritage Learning Center provides academic support and accommodations for the improvement of academic skills as well as enables students to discover their learning strengths, build on these strengths and advocate for their needs. The success of this program comes from trained professionals providing services but more importantly it comes from the joyful learning environment that distinguishes Tyburn from other schools. We offer a nurturing environment where each student has the opportunity to thrive. Allowing students to grow and mature naturally instills in them a love of learning and strengthens their self confidence.

Academic Support

Our goal is to offer academic support to our entire student body. Our students come to Tyburn from many different academic backgrounds at varying levels of learning which can create challenges for students and teachers. Our teachers often find gaps in our students’ learning. Our mission to provide all students the same opportunities can be realized when teachers can target these gaps early and allow students to utilize the resources. Sometimes a student needs extra help to “get over the hump” in reading, writing or math skills. Sometimes a student needs an extra set of eyes to read an essay or a senior needs help with inspiration for a college application essay. The Heritage Learning Center is here to help!
